Education Program

As an academic institution, Asia Pacific College is driven by its mission, vision, and core values to contribute to a global impact on promoting premium education by providing free tutorials, seminars or webinars, technical training, and workshops. This effort is designed to provide opportunities and an accessible learning platform to learners who are geographically dispersed.

Background

  • The students from APC School of Engineering have equipped FTHNA with the skill and knowledge of growing lettuce with hydroponics, in which their produce can be sold and made into a business that would bring the association additional income. Teaching the association to form a cooperative is essential in helping them establish that business.
  • After discussing with the officers about their attempts on registering to be a cooperative, turns out that they have been swindled by someone who promised to take care of all the documents and registration. The swindler ran off with the money and documents of the association. To prevent this from ever happening again, the School of Management students conducted a series of workshops such as the “Introduction to Cooperatives, Simple Bookkeeping, Self Finance, and Useful Online Platforms” from February 1, 2023, to March 1, 2023.

Workshop on Simple Bookkeeping

  • The Asia Pacific College students from GOSORES class conducted a workshop on Simple Bookkeeping for the community officers of Forward Taguig Habitat Neighborhood Association (FTHNA) on February 15, 2022, at Asia Pacific College, Makati City.
  • After the lesson, all the attendees of the workshop had a worksheet to answer. The worksheets had activities where they were given lines of transactions of a hypothetical business, and the attendees were to bookkeep all the transactions in columns. The great news is that every fully filled up the worksheets with no errors, which ensures us that they have learned from the teachings. The worksheets are taken home with them, so they have a guide as they practice bookkeeping in their cooperative.

Workshop Personal Finance

In the second session, they discussed about “Personal Finance.” Our guest speaker, the president of the Finance Educators Association of the Philippines, discussed the importance of budgeting and saving. After this, an APC student taught the effective ways of budgeting and saving, with a step-by-step guide on the easy-to-follow budget plan.

All the attendees of the workshop had a worksheet to answer. The worksheets had activities where they would first create a budget plan for a premise and where they would create their own personal budget plan. The great news is that every fully filled up the worksheets and did all the computations correctly, which ensures us that they have learned from the teachings. The attendees were proud of themselves and were excited to share their new learnings with the rest of the members of the association. “Ipapakita ko sa kanila (the other members) ang tamang paraan ng pag-bubudget” (I will show them the right way of budgeting.). Their answered worksheets were taken home with them as their guide.

  • The closing ceremony was attended by the faculty of the School of Management, headed by Mr. Jed Loma, GOSORES students (Term 2), and Dr. Teresita “Tata” Medado.
  • March 1, 2022, is the last day of GOSORES Class Part I Real Project Activities. Jose Martin Remo and Mr. Roy Avecilla discussed how they can use “online platforms” to sell and distribute their produce, and how they can prevent scams online.
  • After the lesson, the attendees of the workshop were presented with a video that showcased a successful hydroponics farm. The attendees were inspired by the video and became even more excited to push through with the hydroponics business. A feedback from the attendees were that the lesson and video shared were ”nakakagana” (inspiring).
