Dr. Lorena Rabago now sits as the newly appointed Data Privacy Officer (DPO) of Asia Pacific College. Her role is to ensure that the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (DPA) is being observed by personal information controllers (PICs) or personal information processors (PIPs) within the organization.
According to Section II of Republic Act No. 10173, “It is the policy of the State to protect the fundamental human right of privacy of communication while ensuring free flow of information to promote innovation and growth.” All government and private sectors are obliged to ensure that personal information and data within its communication systems are safeguarded. For instance, the pieces of information that the school acquires through the feedback forms that are embedded in its official website are protected with utmost discretion and confidentiality. She will work hand in hand with the National Privacy Commission (NPC) regarding matters that concern security issues and data privacy.
Dr. Lor has been part of Asia Pacific College since June 6, 2016. She is also the school’s Quality Assurance (QA) Director. As a faculty member of the School of Computing and Information Technologies (SoCIT), she enjoys teaching Project Management courses.
Her passion revolves around teaching, counseling, and serving. “My dream for APC is for everyone to have ‘quality’ as a way of life,” she explained. She strives to work on a daily basis with excellence in mind.
Two resounding quotes have positively shaped her view of work. The first one is her life verse which is taken from Colossians 3:23 that says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” The second one is a quote from Aristotle which says, “We are what we repeatedly do; excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
